Botox Injections
Want to look more refreshed? Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles? Botulinum toxin type A (aka Botox, wrinkle relaxers) are injectable neurotoxins that temporarily block nerve impulses to the muscles, causing them to relax. The result? A softer, smoother, younger-looking complexion with zero downtime.
Most patients describe the sensation as a brief, mild pinch, similar to a small bug bite. We use an ultra-fine needle, and topical numbing cream is available if you prefer. Discomfort is minimal and lasts only seconds per injection. Most patients are comfortable returning to work or social activities immediately after.
Not with a skilled, conservative injector. Dr. Zamorano's approach uses precise anatomical placement and appropriate dosing to relax specific muscles without affecting surrounding expression. The goal is a refreshed, rested version of you — never a "frozen" or overly smooth appearance. New patients are always started conservatively, with the option to add more at the two-week follow-up.
Results typically last 3–6 months, varying by person based on metabolism, muscle strength, and treatment area. Crow's feet often last on the longer end; the forehead can metabolize slightly faster. With consistent treatment over time, many patients find their results extend longer as the treated muscles naturally weaken from reduced activityy, meaning less product is needed to maintain the same effect
As the first product of its kind to go to market, Botox® is the most well-known cosmetic treatment for reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles. The most common areas include the forehead, between the eyes (known as glabellar or “eleven” lines), around the corners of the eyes or crow’s feet.
A Botox® treatment can take as little as 15 minutes, with minimal to no downtime is needed after an appointment. To ensure treatment is as pain free as possible, your practitioner will use a very small needle and apply numbing cream if necessary. You will begin to see results within one week after treatment. Results will continue to become more visible daily, with full results after approximately two weeks.
Botox®, classified as a neuromodulator, uses a toxin called Botulinum toxin type A to block chemical signals from nerves that would normally cause the injected muscle or muscles to contract. In other words, Botox® temporarily relaxes muscles in order to soften expressions. Over time, the decreased movement can reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the skin above. The effects of Botox® typically last between 3-6 months, varying from person to person. As Botox® begins to wear off, the injected area will begin to move normally over a period of time. With regular treatment and continued use over time, Botox® can begin to reverse the appearance of wrinkles by influencing the muscles to move less naturally. Botox® can also be used to prevent wrinkles from forming. Preventative Botox® treatments can begin earlier in the aging process, as early as in your twenties.
Yes, significantly! A board-certified physician has deeper anatomical training, medical judgment in managing complications, and the full scope of practice to handle any unexpected outcomes. At Glow Health, Dr. Zamorano personally performs every injection, not a nurse, esthetician, or technician. This level of oversight matters, especially for areas near the eyes, brow, or neck where precise placement is critical.
Bay Area Botox ranges from $15–$25 per unit at most reputable clinics. At Glow Health Medical Clinic, our standard rate is $15/unit, with a bulk rate of $12/unit when you purchase 100 units (valid for 12 months). A typical three-area treatment (forehead, glabellar, crow's feet) uses roughly 40–60 units, which runs $600–$900 at our standard rate physician-administered and competitively priced for Marin County. Botox relaxes muscles to smooth wrinkles caused by facial movement, like forehead lines, "11s," and crow's feet. Dermal fillers add physical volume to areas that have lost fullness, like cheeks, under-eyes, lips, and nasolabial folds. They address different causes of aging and work beautifully together. Many patients use both: Botox for the upper face, fillers for the mid and lower face.
There's no single right age, it depends on your genetics, skin type, and goals. Some patients start preventative "baby Botox" in their mid-20s with small doses to slow the formation of lines. Many start in their 30s when lines are becoming visible at rest. Botox is equally effective in your 40s, 50s, and beyond. Dr. Zamorano will assess whether now is the right time for you, with no pressure to proceed.
As Botox gradually metabolizes, the treated muscles regain their normal movement over a few weeks. Your skin returns to its pre-treatment baseline. Botox does not accelerate aging or make wrinkles worse when it wears off. With regular maintenance, the muscles may naturally move less over time, meaning results can last longer and cost less to maintain.
Avoid blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E) for 7–10 days prior if possible, as these increase bruising risk. Skip alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment. Arrive with clean skin and no heavy makeup. Bring a list of any medications or supplements you're taking. That's it, no other special preparation is needed.
